For plumbers
How plumbers get recommended by AI assistants
More customers now ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode instead of scrolling a list. You can't pay to be in those answers. You can make sure the places they read say something clear and true about you.
What customers actually ask
- "Who is a good plumber in Austin?"
- "Emergency plumber near me that answers at night"
- "Best plumber for a water heater replacement in Round Rock"
Ask those yourself, in a private window, in both assistants. They often name different businesses for the same question.
Where those answers come from
For plumbers, these are the places worth checking first:
- Your Google Business Profile, with emergency hours and service area filled in
- Yelp, Angi, Nextdoor and the Better Business Bureau
- Local news "best of" polls and neighborhood Facebook groups
- Your own site, with the jobs you do spelled out: water heaters, slab leaks, repiping
Assistants repeat specifics. "Licensed master plumber, 24/7, same-day water heaters" gets quoted. "Quality service you can trust" doesn't.
Five things to do this week
- Fill in every field on your Google Business Profile, including services and hours.
- Ask recent customers for reviews that say what you did for them, not just a star rating.
- Get listed, accurately, on the directories above.
- Put checkable facts on your site: licenses, years in business, the exact jobs you take.
- Ask the same questions again next month and see what moved.
